The basic function of the Editorial Assistant is to provide administrative and editorial support to the editorial group in acquiring, contracting, developing, publishing and maintaining products. The ideal candidate is interested in a career in higher education publishing and is expected to develop a comprehensive knowledge of the editorial group's activities.
Provide general administrative support for editorial and production group as needed
Coordinate all invoice tracking for the Legal Education group. Prepare check requests and follow up as needed
Coordinate all activities related to scheduling New Product Proposal meetings, including attending meetings and posting approved NPPs
Request and distribute reports for approved revision titles and maintain RTF files for editorial
Circulate weekly publication plan and changes memo. Regularly update the product master as required
Provide administrative support to the Publisher and Executive Director of Product Management. Activities include but are not limited to: creating expense reports, scheduling meetings, ordering catering, making travel plans, taking meeting notes, circulating agendas, etc.
Maintain and order office supplies for editorial group
Send out announcements and emails to company and send author copies as books are published
Work closely with managing editors and acquisitions editors to ensure accurate reporting of weekly status reports, work schedules and monthly reports
Peforms other duties as assigned by manager
- B.A or B.S or equivalent required.
- Minimum 1-3 years of administrative support experience, experience in publishing preferred
Other Knowledge, Skills, Abilities or Certifications:
Exceptional General Computer Literacy. Must be able to learn new programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, online survey software, proprietary title management system, online travel/expense systems
Exceptional ability to pay close attention to detail
Strong project management skills, including ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously as well as excellent follow up skills
Comfortable working in fast-paced and deadline driven environment
Strong interpersonal and oral/written communication skills are required with the ability to interact appropriately and maturely with authors, customers, and colleagues
Strong organizational skills, including ability to organize print and digital files
Ambition to take on new projects and opportunities as assigned
